How are the repairs carried out?

Our van is a mobile workshop.

Working with plastic parts is not the same as metal panel repairs, though many of the methods are similar - The damaged area is cleaned and repaired. Minor dents, deep scratches and gouges are sanded clear, then repaired with body filler if necessary. The area once faired in and restored to its original contours, is then primed and colour-matched, before top-coating with a fast-drying clear coat that is dust dry in two minutes flat. The finish is the same as the factory finish, and may be treated in exactly the same way once fully cured.

How much does it cost?

As each bit of paint or panel damage is unique, the cost to repair it will depend on the time required for the repair. Generally we carry out a repair for much less than a crash shop would charge.

PLUS you get on-site service. You don't lose any time taking the car to a workshop, and picking it up again after a couple of days. Most of our jobs take no more than 2 - 3 hours to complete.

We are always happy to provide a firm quote before commencing work.

How do you match the colour?

Almost every car has a paint code applied by the manufacturer somewhere on the vehicle.

This code is entered into our computer database covering virtually every vehicle manufactured in the world over the last 20 years. Using this database we can formulate and produce an exact colour match. Some eye matching may subsequently be required if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

Will I be able to see the difference?

No you will not see the difference after the repair is complete! The processes we use ensure that the appearance of the repaired area will be equal to the original factory finish. After the appropriate curing time, you can treat the new paint exactly the same as you would the original finish.

We offer a Lifetime Warranty on the repairs, guaranteeing that the repaired area will not fade, delaminate or lose its original finish. We cannot guarantee rust repairs.

How long does it take to dry?

Usually the repainted area will be dust dry in 2 minutes after application. We then use an infra red heater to cure the paint after which the finish will be sufficiently hard to allow us to polish and complete the repair process. Once we have completed the repair you can drive your car immediately.

You may wash the car 24 hours after the repair, but it is recommended that no sealing waxes or polishes be used on the new paint for a further one month after that time.

Where do I take the car?

We come to you! We are a mobile workshop. We travel across Hobart to your home or office.

People often ask - where is your workshop? Our workshop is at your home or office, in a spot safely off the street.

All work is conveniently performed at your location. All we need is a safe working area off the street, and access to a power point (up to 25 metres away). Shelter is obviously required if the weather is inclement, but generally the best results can be achieved in full daylight conditions, out in the open.

Why is Bumperfix Plus Different to Other Mobile Services?

We pride ourselves on the quality of work we produce, and can state with confidence that there are many panel shops out there that cannot produce such quality - and we do it in your driveway!

Bumperfix Plus cannot guarantee you the cheapest prices in town, but we can guarantee you the best value for money - the best possible level of repair for a fair price.

Should I make an insurance claim or have Bumperfix Plus come out to appraise and possibly repair my car?

Get Richard to give you a quotation, then call your insurer and find out what your excess is. It may be more economical to make an insurance claim.

Can you tell us more about your process and the paint you use?

Our paints are the best quality we can source, and are generally from Europe.  Like all auto makers we apply 3 types of paint when repairing your car.

The first layer is a primer which is designed to adhere firmly to plastics. Usually we appy a minimum of 2 coats of this. Primer is the glue that holds subsequent paints onto the car.

The next paint applied is the colour.  This paint is mixed on the job in order to match the colour of you car.

This could take up to 8 to 10 coats in order to fully cover the primer. If the colour is a pearl paint then there are 2 layers of colour.

The final paint applied is the glossy lacquer. This is a 2 part paint and normally requires 3 to 6 coats to ensure a fully glossed finish. The purpose of the lacquer is to protect the underlying colour and primer from UV rays, and solvent spillages such as petrol - which have the potential to leave permanent marks in the paintwork. The lacquer also gives the car a glossy finish.

From time to time it is necessary to use a filler on a job.  It is used only in order to maintain the integrity of the shape of the part being worked on.  We use it maybe on one in 4 jobs.
